EnginZyme is a Swedish startup founded in 2014 that is building the most general and most efficient technology platform for chemical production that the world has ever seen. That’s a big claim, but we can stand behind it. Our platform combines the breadth and power of nature (enzymatic cascades) with the efficiency of the chemical industry (packed bed reactors) in a best-of-both-worlds technological solution.
Our technology gives us a unique position to address many challenges facing the chemical industry in the 21st century. In particular, our ambition is to play a key role in tackling climate change — both by accelerating the industry’s transition to sustainability, and by innovating solutions for other industries through novel chemical products.
We’re funded by well-known investors, our team comes from all over the world and are experts in what they do. We’re building an industry-leading company for the long-term, and want to invite you to come along for the journey. If you want to read more about us this Forbes article is a good starting point, as is our most recent funding announcement.

What you’ll do
At EnginZyme, we take the best parts of synthetic biology - multi-step enzymatic reactions - and eliminate the worst bits: chassis design, flux, promotors, regulators and other complexities needed to engineer living cells. In particular, our ambition is to play a key role in tackling climate change — both by accelerating the industry’s transition to sustainability, and by innovating solutions for other industries through novel chemical products.

We’re funded by well-known investors, have been recognized as a Technology Pioneer by the World Economic Forum, and employ some of the best researchers in their respective fields, from all over the world. We’re now looking for a front-end developer at the top of their game who wants to help us make the $5 trillion chemical industry sustainable and mitigate the threat of climate change.
What you’ll do
At EnginZyme’s Automation and Data Management team our goal is to simplify and accelerate lab work. Your job will be to build user interfaces that help our scientists interact efficiently and joyfully with robots and instruments, as well as help them visualize and understand the data that comes out of the experiments. In other words, you work will act as a multiplier on the output of the entire R&D department.
Key tasks and responsibilities are:
Design software applications to improve the everyday scientific experience in the research lab
Define milestones, timelines and deliverables with your tech lead
Build and implement web applications
Review code from your colleagues
Create documentation and training materials for users

What we can offer you
The opportunity to be part of something big and important
To work with world-class researchers solving problems at the frontier of science
Competitive salary and equity in the company
Start-up mentality. No red tape, lots of responsibility and ownership
A friendly, very multi-cultural, tight-knit group employing 40 people from 16 different countries
An environment where you’re free — and expected — to continuously learn and grow
One of the best cities in the world to live and work, and we offer relocation support and help you get set up. But don't take our word for the quality of life in Stockholm — instead just listen to this guy for five minutes:https://youtu.be/CAkdWUjdJyA

Who you are
We’re looking for someone who is passionate about implementing user interfaces, and can also design them. You don’t have to be a stellar graphical designer — your front-end dev skills are what matters the most — but you should care about UX and be the kind of person who sketches and iterates storyboards before writing your first line of code. We mostly use Vue.js but the exact frameworks you’ve worked with doesn’t matter as long as you know your JS, HTML and CSS like the back of your hand.
You by no means have to be a scientist yourself, but having an interest in science helps — hanging out with people in lab coats who use words like “transaminase” and "enzyme engineering" should make you excited rather than nervous. In terms of personal qualities, the person we seek is someone who gets things done without anyone having to tell them to, wants to push boundaries, and is also a friendly, cooperative person. If this describes you, you’ll fit in with the rest of the team! Visa mindre

We’re now looking for a Data Engineer at the top of their game who wants to help us make the chemical industry sustainable and mitigate the threat of climate change.

What you’ll do
In our RnD labs we process hundreds of samples daily and each one of them has plenty of metadata associated to the design, simulation, execution and analysis of experiments. This data stream constitutes our main knowledge base and we are constantly improving our data pipelines in our Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) far beyond "just storing data in the cloud".
We need your help to augment our RnD team's capacity to make smart and informed decisions and simplify experiment management by providing tools to handle each sample's digital twin. As a data engineer you will deep-dive into our database to develop and maintain scientific data entry schemas, but you will also create researcher-friendly data pipelines bridging the robustness of structured data to everyday lab activities. You will work to integrate our LIMS with our own robots and instruments, responsibly testing and deploying internal tools and assisting researchers to seamlessly adopt them.
Key tasks and responsibilities are:
Continuous development of custom bioinformatic software packages and their integration to our Laboratory Information Management System
Automate data import/export from Liquid Handling Robots and analytical instruments via scripting programming languages
Deploy templates for experimental procedures, sample digitalisation, capture results by documenting typical use cases and training users in the lab.
Design and implement database queries and visualisation schemas for advanced analytical studies

The position is based in Stockholm and may include some travel for research and development purposes.

We’re looking for people who share our passion for problem-solving with no toolkit boundaries. You have a scientific background and have worked in a lab before, so you understand the priorities of applied research and why a good data management system is important. Furthermore, you have developed multipurpose IT skills (Python and are your bread and butter), and you have contributed with code to larger projects, so you are used to writing clear, maintainable and testable code.
In terms of personal qualities, we’re looking for someone who is passionate about their work, who gets things done without anyone telling them to, and who wants to push boundaries. What you’ll do
Process development is central to our mission. Historically, many companies using enzymatic methods of production have focused too much on the enzymes and not enough on the process. We turn that around — having an easily scalable, efficient process with high space-time yield is the true differentiator in the field.
Your challenge will be to drive the process development of biocatalytic processes. Amongst other things, you will develop detailed technoeconomic analyses of various chemical targets, as well as support process development activities to bring new chemicals to market. The role reports to the Director of Process Engineering.
Key tasks and responsibilities in this role are:
Develop a robust platform for technoeconomic analysis of biochemical processes.
Play a key role in bridging research and development activities with commercial targets by collaborating with our Business Development Team to evaluate future targets.
Define, execute, and deliver front-end-loading activities to ensure a risk-mitigated delivery of validated commercial plant design for novel specialty chemicals.
Actively support process development activities to bring new chemicals to market from a conceptual design stage (e.g., process route definition, material and energy balance, and techno-economic evaluation) through to the feasibility, definition, and execution stages — this may include collaboration with outside technology experts.
Identify gaps and investigate key physical and chemical properties required for flowsheet process modelling.
Scouting for new stream and DSP technologies.

You have a strong technical background, with a PhD in Chemical, Biochemical, or Biosystems Engineering. You have documented experience doing technoeconomic analysis of biological processes as well as operating and troubleshooting laboratory rigs and/or pilot plants. Experience in fermentation, catalytic process, and DSP will be valuable. Ditto experience of specialty chemicals for end-use markets such as cosmetics or food ingredients.
You are self-motivated and organised with a demonstrable ability to work and communicate effectively with external partners and peers at all levels. You thrive in a fast-paced environment and enjoy a combination of experimental and theoretical work.
In terms of personal qualities, we’re looking for someone who has a passion for their field, gets things done, and wants to keep learning and growing. And, last but not least, who is friendly and cooperative. If this describes you, you’ll fit in with the rest of the team!

What you’ll do
At EnginZyme, we take the best parts of synthetic biology - multi-step enzymatic reactions - and eliminate the worst bits: chassis design, flux, promotors, regulators and other complexities needed to engineer living cells. Instead, we replace all that with a simple alternative: highly stable enzymes immobilised on our patented supports applied in fixed bed reactors, the gold standard for bulk chemistry.
We're now looking for someone who can help drive this research. You'll be part of a tight-knit and quick moving R&D group, pushing the boundaries of what can be done with enzymes.

Key tasks and responsibilities in this role are:
Lead and take part in the projects aimed to develop immobilised enzymes in packed bed applications and processes for pharma, flavours and fragrances, agro, food and chemical industries
Utilisation of laboratory automation and DoE approach to accelerate optimisation of biotransformations with immobilised enzymes
Continuous development and improvement of proprietary immobilisation technology
Be a link between enzyme and process engineering teams to validate activity, stability and performance of novel biocatalysts

The position is based in Stockholm and may include some traveling for development and training purposes.

Who you are
We’re looking for a researcher at the top of their abilities ideally someone who has PhD with wide experience in biocatalysis, enzyme immobilisation and utilisation of packed bed reactors. Candidates that are truly outstanding with other backgrounds will also be considered.
In terms of personal qualities, we’re looking for someone who:

“I think the biggest innovations of the 21st century will be at the intersection of biology and technology. A new era is beginning.” — Steve Jobs

Want to fight climate change, reshape the trillion dollar chemical industry, and have fun programming robots at the same time? We’re a Swedish startup founded in 2014 that is using computation and biology together to create a new way of producing both the existing building blocks of the world — the billion tonnes of plastics, nylons, rubbers, and all the other things that we touch on a day to day basis — as well as completely new molecules and materials.

We’re funded by well-known investors, and employ some of the best researchers in their respective fields from all over the world. We’re building an industry-leading company for the long-term, and we want to invite you to come along for the journey. You can read more about us here: https://www.forbes.com/sites/j...
What you’ll do
In yesterday’s labs even PhD-level researchers spent most of their time engaged in drudgery, such as repeating the same pipetting movements for hours on end. Results were recorded in physical notebooks with pen and paper, and data wasn’t standardized, searchable, or easily analyzable. This era is thankfully coming to an end.
The lab of the future is automated, scalable, and software-driven, and at EnginZyme we want your help building it. This means everything from designing a coherent backend that integrates multiple services, to writing scripting tools for data analysis, to interfacing with robots. As a senior backend developer you will play a big role in defining our software strategy. Together with people working on automation, data management, and RnD, you will co-create solutions in a continuous process of design, development, deployment and testing. You’ll build tools from scratch, adapt open source tools, and integrate with commercial services — whatever it takes to get the job done.
Key tasks and responsibilities are:
Design and drive strategic initiatives for internal automation and data management software solutions.
Integrate APIs for robotics, instruments, and analytics.
Write automated tests for your solutions, deploy them and monitor to detect and address our user issues.
Explore and prototype new ideas, algorithms, and frameworks.

The position is based in Stockholm and may include some traveling for research and development purposes.
Who you are
We are looking for people share our passion for problem solving without toolkit boundaries. As a software developer, you are an independent problem solver and you don’t need a playbook to follow. If you’re comfortable with technologies like Python, Docker, AWS and ,that’s a plus, but the exact technology stack you’ve worked with in the past is not the most important thing. What’s matters is that you can deliver to a high standard.
You have successfully managed and implemented small and medium sized projects from the idea conception to deployment. You don’t cut corners during testing and deployment, and you know how to avoid technical debt. You enjoy communicating your ideas to people who work in a totally different area and don’t share your expertise.
In terms of personal qualities, we’re looking for someone who:
Has a passion for what they do. Someone who has found their calling — the kind of person who thinks about coding in the shower.
Is creative. Someone who loves coming up with out-of-the-box solutions and new, smarter ways of doing things.
Gets things done. A self-disciplined, hard-working doer.
Doesn’t settle. Someone who pushes the envelope — overdelivers, goes out of their comfort zone, resists stagnation.
Is agreeable. A warm, cooperative, and friendly person.

If this describes you, you’ll fit in with the rest of the team!
What we can offer you
The opportunity to be part of something big and important
Getting to advance state-of-the-art technology
To work with world-class researchers on problems at the frontier of the field
Competitive salary and equity in the company
The get in on the ground floor — it’s still early days (and we plan to grow our headcount by more than 50% this year alone)
