WWF seeks an experienced and motivated individual for the position of Director, WWF Arctic Programme.

The WWF Arctic Programme office is located in WWF-Sweden's office in Stockholm, where the Arctic Programme Director will be based. The Director will lead a Core Team of senior specialists who provide technical and policy input and facilitate cooperation, joint strategizing, communication and implementation of the Arctic Programme's goals and strategies among Arctic and non-Arctic national offices.

The programme's Core Team is located primarily in WWF-Sweden and a few other WWF offices. The WWF Arctic Programme Steering Committee is the governing body for the WWF Arctic Programme, guiding the strategic direction of the programme.

Main responsibilities:

Coordinate and implement the WWF Arctic Strategic Plan and annual workplan.
Supervise, motivate and enable, with staff responsibility, the Arctic Programme's Core Team members.
Serve as key liaison for Arctic issues with the wider WWF Network.
Communicate the urgency of Arctic conservation with diverse audiences in a compelling way.
Represent WWF among various international bodies and build relationships with external partners, with a focus on international policy and coordination with governments, Indigenous Peoples' organisations, inter-governmental organisations, academia, NGOs and the corporate sector.
Support WWF's role as an observer to the Arctic Council.
Ensure the appropriate use of funds and oversee the preparation of reports for the WWF Network.
Work with the WWF Arctic Network National Offices to identify internal and external fundraising opportunities.
Required qualifications and experience:

Ability to work in a collaborative setting where leadership and authority are distributed.
3-5 years' experience in a leadership role, with experience in managing multi-disciplinary teams.
A proven track record of leading and working in network organisations, and with geographically dispersed multicultural teams.
An advanced degree in natural sciences, environmental management and policy, law, international relations, or related field.
10 years progressively senior professional work experience in conservation, policy, environment, sustainable development, or other related fields.
Demonstrated ability to think strategically and proven experience from advocacy and influencing to drive change at a regional and/or international scale.
Excellent command of the English language, basic knowledge of Swedish and willingness to improve (fluent Swedish is an advantage), other Arctic language is an asset.
Excellent interpersonal and influencing skills and strong analytical, organization and communication skills.
Demonstrated experience in building relations and partnerships with various stakeholders.
Experience in working with Indigenous Peoples organisations is an asset.
Familiarity with Arctic issues and challenges, understanding of the Arctic circumpolar environment, sustainable development and policy, as well as Arctic regional and other relevant intergovernmental bodies and processes.

We are hiring a Senior Specialist, Arctic Species to lead and manage delivery of species conservation in the WWF network's global Arctic Programme. The WWF Arctic Programme advances a well-managed, biodiverse and resilient Arctic through advocacy and implementation of strategic conservation initiatives led by a team of multi-disciplinary experts. The Senior Specialist, Arctic Species provides leadership, strategic direction, coordination and technical support for the Arctic Programme's species work within the WWF network and externally, aligned with the WWF Arctic Strategic Plan.
We are looking for an experienced conservation strategist with sound technical knowledge and proven experience with species conservation in the Arctic. You will work from WWF's office in Sweden but hold responsibility for coordinating species conservation work at the pan-Arctic level. You will work closely with thematic experts and project leaders throughout WWF's network. This is a challenging senior role which requires multi-disciplinary and multi-national collaboration in order to create transformative change in the Arctic. This position reports directly to the Director of WWF's global Arctic Programme.

The person in this role will
. Lead the development, implementation and monitoring of a strategy for Arctic species conservation for the Arctic Programme, including areas of focus on wildlife conservation, habitat protection and underwater noise pollution
. Coordinate with subject matter experts within the global WWF network to promote knowledge sharing, collaboration and advance Arctic species conservation
. Translate scientific research into policy recommendations for advocacy towards Arctic species conservation
. Deliver policy outcomes for Arctic species conservation in international fora, including the Arctic Council, CAFF, PAME, IMO, CBD and Polar Bear Range States
. Provide support and leadership to the global WWF network on priority Arctic species conservation (polar bear, walrus, reindeer, narwhal, beluga and bowhead whales), including through technical and policy advice
. Develop the work plan and manage the budget for the species work stream, and facilitate and prioritize shared funding and initiatives
. Develop new initiatives and manage Arctic species projects contracted to external or WWF network parties throughout the project cycle
. Represent WWF's global Arctic Programme, develop and manage strategic partnerships within the WWF network and externally with governments, intergovernmental bodies, academia and eNGOs
. Collaborate with WWF global Arctic Programme team members, providing species conservation expertise to other work streams, contributing to programme management tools and supporting communications strategies and outputs
. Assist WWF offices with communications and fundraising efforts for Arctic species conservation
Key qualities
The successful candidate should show evidence of the following attributes:
. Proven experience in species conservation, with sound knowledge of the major conservation issues affecting Arctic species
. Extensive experience in key Arctic international policy fora, ie: Arctic Council, CAFF, PAME
. Proven experience developing and maintaining partnerships to advance strategic objectives
. Proven experience developing science-based policy for the Arctic region
. Direct work experience with international conservation NGOs.
. Strong and proven programme development, leadership, management, and coordination skills, interpersonal and teambuilding skills, understanding of project and financial management, and budgeting.
. Ability to translate technical and scientific information for a non-technical audience
. Demonstrated experience coordinating complex international programs with strong policy and advocacy components
. Experience with field-based research and species conservation activities

About you
. PhD in the field of natural resources management, biological sciences or conservation biology
. At least 10 years' experience in wildlife or conservation programme management, including at least 5 years in the Arctic context
. Proven leadership in Arctic international species fora

. Excellent planning and partnership/project management skills

. Proactive, self-motivated person who works well within a team but demonstrates ability for autonomy

Denna tjänst innebär en möjlighet att bidra till att stärka WWFs påverkan på globala policyprocesser och deras implementering på nationell nivå genom att arbeta med kapacitetsstärkande inom policypåverkan hos WWFs partnerkontor främst i Asien och Afrika.



Ditt fokus kommer vara att stötta WWFs programkontor i deras policypåverkansarbete i nära samverkan med det globala teamet som koordinerar WWF-nätverkets policypåverkansarbete. Arbetet utförs också i nära samverkan med WWFs globala team för governance och illegal handel med arter, samt med teamet för det nystartade programmmet Voices for Diversity (VfD), vars huvudfokus är policypåverkan.



Arbetsuppgifter:

. Stötta pågående kapacitetsstärkande aktiviteter som WWFs globala team leder. Detta innebär att arbeta nära med ett globalt team baserat runtom i världen och med WWFs programkontor, främst i Asien och Afrika.

. Utveckla material, utbildningsprogram och aktiviteter för att stötta WWFs programkontor och deras partners i planering, genomförande och uppföljning av policypåverkan.

. Planera och genomföra workshops och möten.

. Stötta VfD programsamordnaren med den tekniska rapportering som rör det globala policypåverkansarbetet inom programmet.

. Bidra till att utveckla och löpande stärka arbetet med uppföljning och utvärdering av VfD programmet.

. Medverka i WWFs arbete med och metodutveckling kring ett rättighetsbaserat arbetssätt och naturvårdens sociala dimensioner.

. Regelbunden omvärldsbevakning med fokus på globala policyprocesser inom naturvård samt geografiskt med fokus på Afrika och Asien.



För att passa i rollen ser vi gärna att du har följande bakgrund:

. Gedigen relevant arbetslivserfarenhet från internationellt och nationellt politiskt påverkansarbete kring frågor som rör hållbar utveckling, miljö och mänskliga rättigheter, gärna med erfarenhet från arbete i länder i Afrika eller Asien.

. Erfarenhet av globala processer som UNFCCC, CBD, CITES och Agenda 2030 är meriterande.

. Erfarenhet av framtagande av utbildningsmaterial och planering samt genomförande av workshops för att stärka policypåverkanskapacitet.

. Erfarenhet av att arbeta utifrån ett rättighetsbaserat arbetssätt, och med mänskliga rättigheter inom naturvård.

. Meriterande att ha arbetat med att främja utsatta gruppers talan.

. God pedagogisk förmåga och strategiskt tänk kring kapacitetsbyggande.

. God förmåga att driva, samordna och motivera medarbetare att arbeta mot gemensamma mål.

. Erfarenhet från arbete inom internationella naturvårds- eller biståndsorganisationer, gärna i nätverksorganisationer är meriterande liksom kunskap om civilsamhället och påverkansarbete i Afrika och Asien.

. Relevant akademisk utbildning och mycket god förmåga att uttrycka sig i tal och skrift på svenska och engelska. Franska, spanska, portugisiska eller swahili är meriterande.

. Som person vill vi att du ska vara strukturerad, kommunikativ, samarbetsinriktad och resultatfokuserad.

Role description

The Water Stewardship Manager (WS Manager) is responsible for developing the WWF Sweden Water Stewardship Program in alignment with WWF global Freshwater Practice strategy and approaches.

The WS manager is also responsible for managing freshwater workstreams within existing and new corporate partnerships and will be responsible for monitoring both corporate performance as well as WWF local basin projects in collective action. The role includes giving strategic advice to partners as well as advocating on target setting. Internally, the role will involve liaising with other WWF offices, global WWF Freshwater Practice as well actively engaging within the global Water Stewardship community. In this role, the WS Manager reports to the Corporate Partnership Manager for the partnership/s in question.

Tasks

· Develop/advise on strategic plans for water stewardship corporate partners.

· Conduct reviews/assessments of current (and previous) water related work of partner companies.

· Raise awareness of water stewardship within partner companies.

· Coordinate WWF Sweden's efforts to engage prospective Swedish corporate partners.

· Monitor and evaluate partnership progress, report and disclose partnership results and achievements.

· Represent WWF-Sweden in relevant working groups in the WWF Water Stewardship community of practice and contribute with expertise and collaborative skill to move WWFs scaling and multiplication of water stewardship forward.

· Contribute support to WWF Freshwater Practice initiatives and basin team projects including developing/managing basin projects within Swedish corporate partnerships.

· Ensure awareness, outreach, and communication activities with the WWF network for WWF-Sweden on water stewardship.

· Contribute and support WWF R&D initiatives and recruit supporting funds to bring the work forward.

Requirements

· Written and oral proficiency in English and good knowledge of Swedish is required for this role.

· A degree/or equal education in water resource management/catchment management/environmental science/agriculture/environmental learning and social change.

· 8-10 years of relevant experience of working in relevant sectors on water stewardship issues and water resource management related policies and legislation.

· Experience in strategy development as well as knowledge of key issues in water stewardship, water resource management, and sustainability crucial for productive engagements in the business sectors. Experience working with food & beverage, apparel & textiles and retail sectors considered an asset.

· Ability to bridge the gap between WWF as a conservation organization and the corporate world.

· Ability to build relationships and trust with key stakeholders, including convening role-players across sectors, organisations, and locations including the ability to work across cultures.

· Ability to effectively convey vision, ideas, goals and issues as well as produce concise and effective reports and presentations.

· Ability to understand and articulate the business case of projects.

· Ability to work collaboratively and facilitate solutions focused engagements in multidisciplinary and diverse working environments. Demonstrated ability to successfully engage in remote teamwork is considered an asset.
